Introduction

The Bow Valley Immigration Partnership (BVIP) is a collaborative community initiative dedicated to improving immigrant integration in the Bow Valley.  Formalized in February 2014 out of a five year informal collaboration, BVIP brings together stakeholders from the communities of Banff, Canmore, Lake Louise, Kananaskis, and Western M.D. of Bighorn to develop and implement a coordinated integration strategy for the region.

objectives

Our Vision:
The Bow Valley values diversity and supports the inclusion and integration of all residents.

Our Mission:
To educate, collaborate, and bridge community.

BVIP is dedicated to promoting immigrant integration and ensuring the Bow Valley is a welcoming community:  "...a place where there is a strong desire to receive newcomers and to create an environment in which they will feel at home'” (Esses et al.) To be a welcoming community, a location must also have the capacity to meet immigrant and newcomer needs and promote inclusion.

Local Immigration Partnerships (LIPs)

BVIP is one of many Local Immigration Partnerships (LIPs) sponsored by Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).  Local Immigration Partnerships (LIPs) are the mechanism through which IRCC supports the development of local partnerships and community-based planning around the needs of residents and newcomers. LIPs engage various stakeholders including employers, agencies and community to act as an incubator for ideas, measure trends, identify needs and mobilize the appropriate community resources to meet those needs.  LIPs work on their own community’s priorities which include integrating immigrant needs into planning, building welcoming communities, immigrant recruitment & retention, active inclusion, and more.
