In March 2018, the Calgary Local Immigration Partnership and Bow Valley Immigration Partnership co-hosted the National Local Immigration Partnership Learning Event. Held on Treaty #7 territory at the Grey Eagle Resort, Tsuut’ina First Nation, this two day event gathered 142 Local Immigration Partnership, municipal, and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship representatives in person, with additional representatives joining via livestream.
The event marked a milestone in Local Immigration Partnership development. From a limited launch in Ontario in 2008, the LIP network had grown, at the time of the event, to include 77 partnerships in 9 provinces and 2 territories, with more partnerships readying for launch. At the same time, LIP staff were better networked than ever and becoming more active in national level policy discussions. The learning event provided an opportunity to capitalize on and direct this growing energy.
